4th of July is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the fireworks, the food, and the family and friends that get together. I thought I would share with you some ideas for your own 4th of July party, from what to wear, to some unique things you can find at Sticks and Stones to top off your table setting, and my very own Sangria recipe (that is a huge hit with all my family and friends).
First, What to wear....
Since you are the host you need something that is comfortable but yet still looks stylish.
1. Blue Bird shirt $39.00
2. XOXO white jeans $49.00
3. handmade wood earrings with red beads $6.50
If you feel like you want to look a little more patriotic add a red cardigan, red strappy sandals, or more red accessories. You don't need to dress like Uncle Sam to show your pride for the red, white and blue, you can still look classic and patriotic at the same time.
Now that you are dressed for the fun occasion, lets have some fun at the table too.
1. set of 16 bird clips by DCi $7.50
These cute bird clips are great for place settings as well as a little gift for your guests. Use them to clip off a bag of treats to enjoy during the fireworks, or send them home with a little snack for the ride home.
2. nose cups $9.50 and 3. Gin & Titonic ice cube tray $7.95 both by Fred
who says your drink should be served in white cups and have square ice cubes? Surprise your guests with these quirky cups and ice cubes, they will sure love the extra fun you poured into their drink.
4. My Rustic Sandwiches $18.95
Loaded with recipes for hot and cold sandwiches. The perfect summer party food in my mind.
5. Beer Bands by Fred $6.50
Don't get your beer mixed ever again, these stretchy bands wrap around either a bottle or can so you can easily spot your beverage out in the crowd.
6. Citrusaw by Fred $6.25
Love your beer with a little lime? You need this handy little tool, a bottle opener that will also slice your lime...or lemon, or orange.
We have you dressed to impress, and your guests are going to be talking about the great goodie bags you handed out, and rave about your silly cups. They will brag to their neighbors that you didn't serve "square ice cubes". They will Twitter and Facebook about your delicious sandwiches, and how they never lost their beer all night long thanks to some funny beer bands you had waiting for them. And all of your guests will be asking you "where on earth did you find that handy little bottle opener?" You will definitely be the talk of the town! All of these things will put you to the top of "the host of the year" list, but I will share with you one more thing....
This is my very own tried and true sangria recipe, but you can claim it as your own, I don't mind.
what you need
1 bottle of White Zinfandel
1/2 liter Ginger ale
1 container of frozen lemonade
2 ounces of pineapple juice
2 oranges sliced (one for sangria and one to decorate glass)
1 cup of each frozen strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries (or use any frozen fruit that you love)
add sugar to taste
*cinnamon and sugar to rim the glass with
pour in your wine, Ginger Ale, frozen lemonade and 2 ounces of pineapple juice, stir.
Add the slices of one orange, and frozen fruit.
Take a test sip of your drink, if it is too bitter add some sugar if it is too sweet add a little bit more pineapple juice until you get it just right.
I usually do not add any ice to the sangria itself, just in the glass when I pour the drink. The frozen fruit and lemonade are enough to keep it cool.
now the best part...do not forget this step!
take a slice of orange, cut a small slit in it and run it along the top of the glass. Next dip the top of the glass into a low bowl filled with cinnamon and sugar. Once it is covered good, place the orange slice back on to the glass for a little decoration. Add ice to the glass, pour drink, sit back and enjoy.
We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.
